The cloister of Charroux Abbey

Le cloître de l'abbaye de Charroux

As soon as the warm weather arrives, take a stroll through the cloister garden and enjoy the peace and quiet. Pleasant and restful, it appears as a meditative place in the heart of the village.

A haven of peace

In the days of the monks, the cloister, whose colonnaded galleries have now disappeared, served as a place of prayer, reflection and strolling.

It links the abbey's various rooms: the church, chapter house, boiler room and dormitory.

This space evokes the use of plants in monasteries: ornamental to decorate the church, medicinal to treat the sick, textile to make or dye fabrics, and also nourishing .

From April to October, events are scheduled in the cloister: exhibitions, concerts, shows...
